The strength of our group

OUR HISTORY

The Origins

With the growth of the automotive industry in Spain, the Basque Country became a benchmark in the development of small auxiliary companies dedicated to metal stamping and tooling. Among them, Azpiaran S.L. and Estampaciones Generales S.A. (ESGESA) stood out as the protagonists of our story.

During the last decades of the 20th century and the early years of the 21st, both companies grew alongside economic expansion, specializing in stamping for the automotive and appliance sectors. In this period, they moved into larger, more modern facilities. ESGESA also focused on developing increasingly specialized technology: Fineblanking.

2006-2008
The Birth of Grupo Azpiaran

In 2006, Álex Ormaetxebarría and Manuel García-Iturri, two longtime friends with extensive professional backgrounds, acquired Azpiaran S.L. from the founding family.
Shortly after, in 2008, they added ESGESA S.A., renamed Azpiaran Berriz.

With this transaction, Grupo Azpiaran began its journey, reaching a turnover of nearly 20 million euros and employing 90 people.
The factories were strategically reorganized:

  • Azpiaran Zaldibar: progressive stamping from 40 to 400 tons, with a strong presence in the appliance sector.
  • Azpiaran Berriz: progressive stamping from 400 to 800 tons and Fineblanking.

Despite a challenging economic context, the Group remained committed to growth.

  • We incorporated the national companies Introes and Ucar Estampación.
  • We expanded internationally with the creation of Azpiaran Polska, in Wroclaw (Poland).
  • We strengthened our Fineblanking technology with new Feintool presses, considered strategic for the future.

Growth During the Crisis

2012-2014
Diversification and Alliances

  • Creation of Azpiaran Tools, specialized in the design and management of in-house tooling.
  • In Poland, we signed an agreement with the Doga Group, creating Azpiaran Doga Polska (with Doga holding 35%).
  • In Spain, we acquired Intxorta, later integrated into our other plants.

With the sector’s recovery, we launched a new strategic plan focused on high value-added technologies.

  • Investment in a Feintool HFA630 Fineblanking press.
  • Incorporation of the first Transfer press.
  • New projects for Bihler presses.
  • Strengthening of progressive stamping with two Link-Drive presses of 400 and 630 tons.

2015-2018
Technological Innovation

2019-2021
Internationalization and Consolidation

  • In 2019, we regained 100% ownership of Azpiaran Polska after ending the agreement with Doga.
  • That same year, we acquired the IDESA Group, with plants in Spain and Mexico.
  • The Group reached a turnover of 50 million euros and a workforce of 250 employees.
Our international presence in Europe (Spain and Poland) and America (Mexico) represented a qualitative leap highly valued by our main clients.

The COVID-19 pandemic did not stop our growth plans.
In December 2023, we took a decisive step with the acquisition of Talleres MAUGO, headquartered in Tarragona with an industrial subsidiary in Poland.

Polish operations were moved to our new 7,000 m² plant in Wroclaw, a facility designed to integrate its production lines and continue sustainable growth.
